Architectural shingles are heavier and more wind-resistant than three-tab because of their laminated, multi-layer construction. The fiberglass mat provides the structural base, asphalt makes it waterproof, and the granulated ceramic surface protects against UV radiation and provides fire resistance. Tear-Off & Deck Prep
Full tear-off to the deck. Old shingles, deteriorated felt, and corroded flashing removed and hauled to the dumpster. Deck inspection catches hidden damage — rotted sheathing, water-stained OSB, nail pops — before it's buried under new shingles.
Underlayment & Flashing
Ice-and-water shield bonded at valleys and eave lines. Synthetic underlayment over the full deck. New aluminum drip edge at every eave and rake. All flashing — chimney, pipe, vent, wall — sealed and secured before a single shingle goes down.
Shingle Courses
Starter strips along the eave, then field courses of architectural shingles with manufacturer-specified offset and overlap. Each shingle nailed in the designated zone with 4-6 fasteners. Ridge cap shingles hand-nailed at every hip and ridge for a finished, watertight top.
